With cows, sheep, or goats that ate grass, hay, and grains. So if you care about it: they are Kosher and Halal, but not certified. I also don't eat non Kosher animal products.
A lot of people have problems with milk, but that's usually due to pasteurization (it was the same with me). Fermentation helps a lot too, due to the extra probiotics.
Another major upside about about having kefir grains is you don't need to keep buying culture packets. So you can cut out the middleman, and stop being dependent on them.
I've been making my own kefir for 1-4 days a week since 2005. Sometimes every day.
Your grains will be slimy, and active as they should be (a good sign of probiotic activity).
You'll get some bigger grains, but some will be smaller to fill the extra space because these are measured by volume.
They will last forever too, as long as you care of them according to the instructions.
I've been in the natural health world since 2001, and accomplished many things the mainstream says are impossible. I take care of my own health to the point the average person would consider me crazy.
I'm also a "clean freak". 95% of the stuff in the store doesn't exist to me since I consider it mostly garbage.
Point being... I make all my food myself (including cheese), so I know pretty much everything you can do with kefir grains. So if you buy, you can ask me anything if the instructions up top aren't enough.
I only sell my own. I've been selling my excess to resellers for years. Many of them repeatedly bought me out on the spot since I had the best quality (very slimy, etc). When they bought from others, they often had serious quality issues, because most people aren't the health freak that I am, and thus, might not take as good of care of them as I do, because they'll use the contaminated milk of animals from the the blood, pus and shit they let get into the milk because the farmer sucked. That causes them to pump the animals full of drugs, etc., and the milk would be boiled to hell because of it. That is the modern day dairy industry in short.
Because of that, my supply is limited, and I will not accept returns unless there was something seriously wrong with the shipping so the grains became defective in some way. If that happens: you must tell me within 2 days of delivery. To prevent problems, that is why I only allow the fastest shipping possible. So open your package and start taking care of them as soon as you get them. You should not wait long because that can destroy them eventually.
So rest assured that you will get the best kefir grains available: they are never mixed, contain no dead / orange colored grains, and they are never neglected since I use them every week. They are the best you can get.
